Wartrace Church of Christ, Since the 1900's
Wartrace Church of Christ was established in the fall of the year 1900 by Fannie Lou (Moore) Osburn and Tappie Hunt (Moore) Wright. At that time, the congregation met in the Wartrace Town Hall. On many occasions the members would assemble together to worship God in the front room of the old limestone rock jail house that continues to stand in Wartrace today. A few other times the members would meet in the Brandon Training School.
The members met this way for several years until that latter part of 1909, when the four Elders: Benjamin F. Davis, Dr. George E Horton, Albert A. Stong, and Oliver F. Finney, became instrumental in securing the present lot and church building. Mr. William Washington Gant donated the one-half acre lot on Bridgeview Street for the church to be built on. In September of 1909 the construction of the new building began. The work continued rather fast and by October of 1909 the church steeple was in place signifying the completion of the building.
For the past 100 years, the Wartrace Church of Christ has been an active part of the Wartrace community, and today the congregation continues to meet and worship our Lord and Savior in the same historic building that was constructed in 1909.
